Violence Prevention – PVPC Classroom – VCH
Course Prerequisites
This eight-hour classroom session builds on the skills learned in the PVPC e-learning modules.
Topics covered in-depth include:
- PVPC Framework
- Recognizing Risks and Behaviours
- Assessing and Planning (point-of-care risk assessments and behavioural care planning)
- Responding to the Risk (de-escalation skills, determining when and how to call for help, applying personal safety techniques)
- Reporting and Communicating Post Incident
qathet/Sunshine Coast employees:

Important notes:
For health and safety reasons, staff will not be allow to attend if they just finished night shift the morning class starts. They will be asked to leave and re-register for another session.
If you have previously completed the PVPC Classroom course through another Health Authority, you are not required to repeat it. However, we do require that you share your training certificate with us by e-mailing peoplesafety@vch.ca.
If you're a VCH NEW HIRE registered into an "RO" PVPC class, please do not reschedule or cancel yourself, as timekeeping/payroll will not be updated properly. If rescheduling or a cancellation is needed, please contact VCHOrientation@vch.ca for assistance.
In order to register, the prerequisite courses listed above must be completed. The system will not consider similar courses for registration, this includes older versions of the online Violence Prevention courses. Please contact peoplesafety@vch.ca for more information.
For online PVPC sessions, all person attending are expected to have their cameras turned on for the entire duration of the session, with exception of scheduled break times.
Sessions are locked 48 hours before they begin to allow time for instructors to send out their zoom links and prepare the class.
