Provincial Violence Prevention for Medium and High Risk Departments

The Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) is an eLearning course to educate and train health care workers on the competencies required to reduce verbal and physical violence from patients and family members.
Completion of the course is employer paid. Time required to complete the course must be pre approved by the employee’s manager in accordance with the applicable collective agreement provisions and non contract terms and conditions.
The curriculum must be completed by all health care employees, including those in non–direct patient care roles.
The PVPC helps build your understanding and ability to assess situations, know when and how to seek support or resources, and forms the foundation for further training.
This course takes about 3.5 hours to complete, and covers:
• Point of care risk assessments
• Behavioural care plans for those providing direct care or who may interact with patients
• Communication and de-escalation techniques
• When and how to call for help
• Reporting and post-incident requirements
The course supports and incorporates Indigenous Cultural Safety, Trauma Informed Practice, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and explains how they relate to violence prevention.

Note: To receive credit for curriculum completion, please enroll in the curriculum, not just individual courses. You must complete all eight modules.
