Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) Classroom Training

This eight-hour classroom session builds on the skills learned in the PVPC e-learning modules.

Topics covered in-depth include:

  • PVPC Framework
  • Recognizing Risks and Behaviours
  • Assessing and Planning (point-of-care risk assessments and behavioural care planning)
  • Responding to the Risk (de-escalation skills, determining when and how to call for help, applying personal safety techniques)
  • Reporting and Communicating Post Incident

  • THIS COURSE IS FOR CLINICAL STAFF WHO WORK IN HIGH RISK DEPARTMENTS OR OCCUPATIONS AT PHC. This training is mandatory.

    If you have already attended a violence prevention classroom session at another Health Authority in BC, please send proof of completion to violenceprevention@providencehealth.bc.ca for verification and exemption.

Participants will be turned away if they arrive with any of the above symptoms.

  • Pre-requisite: Before registering for this course, you must have completed "Provincial Violence Prevention for Medium and High Risk Departments - 8 Modules".
  • Physical participation is required for this course(In-Person). Please wear comfortable athletic clothing and running shoes(In-Person). Please do NOT wear heels, flip flops, sandals, or open-toed shoes.
  • All communication about changes to the course schedule, including cancellations, will be sent via email. Please make sure that your Learning Hub Account Information is updated. Classes that have low attendance(Less than 5) will be cancelled up to 48hrs before the scheduled course date.
  • In order to receive credit for this course you must attend the entire session.
  • Please click Register Session, if present, to register into a session. If the session is FULL, check back for future session dates as they are updated regularly. If the session is not open to your account type, you will need to verify your employment (see instructions below).
  • If you are unable to attend a session, please cancel your registration and contact violenceprevention@providencehealth.bc.ca to allow others to sign up for a class.

  • Prior to attending educational sessions, you must obtain approval from your manager or supervisor if attending on scheduled work time (or if you expect to be reimbursed if attending outside of work time). Download this form, have it signed and then keep it for your records.

    Registration is currently restricted to Providence Health Care Staff only. You must have a Providence Health Care Learning Hub profile to register. Click in the top right corner where your name appears, choose My Profile, and verify your employment. You DO NOT need an employee number to verify your employment.
