BCCPC - Palliative Essentials in Long Term Care (LTC)

The BC Centre for Palliative Care Palliative Essentials in Long-Term Care (LTC) Course is a self-paced course designed to help LTC clinicians integrate a palliative approach into everyday care. The 5-part curriculum includes base content for a palliative approach upon which to build further learning of discipline-specific knowledge and skills. The online education is meant to complement application of education in the care home. It is comprised of short, free, online resources, which have been curated to provide introductions to reputable sources and accommodate various learning styles.

In 2024, Leaders in LTC across BC health authorities formed a collaborative to enhance and sustain the integration of a palliative approach in LTC and have endorsed this curriculum to enable access for clinicians across all care homes.

The curriculum is for nurses and allied health clinicians working in BC LTC homes, and available for physicians and nurse practitioners. A companion course is in development for health care assistants (HCA).
