VCH – Nova StatStrip Glucose Meter Training

Important Note: This course is only for healthcare provider working at VCH facility.

This learning module is used for initial training for users of the Nova Biomedical StatStrip® Glucose Meter and for annual renewal.

  1. New users and staff who have not met the practical requirement of running 3 patients and 2 quality control tests (level 1 and 3) within a year are required (according to Diagnostic Accreditation Program) to complete the following:
  1. Learning Module
  2. Quiz at the end of the Learning Module
  3. After you have successfully completed this learning module and quiz, ask a certified user to observe you complete the competency skill demonstration.
  4. Submit the Glucose Meter User ID Request and Renewal Form
  1. Staff who are current users and have met the practical requirement of running 3 patients and 2 quality control tests (level 1 and 3) over the course of the year are required to:
  1. Review the Learning Module [as needed]
  2. Complete the quiz at the end of this learning module

Current users are not required to submit the Glucose Meter User ID Request and Renewal Form - Authorization for use of the meter is automatically renewed.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the initial training & annual competency requirements
 Know how and when to perform a Quality Control and what to do if it fails
 Perform and document a patient glucose test
 Understand the reference ranges and procedure for responding to an abnormal result
 Know how to clean and disinfect the meter
 Know basic troubleshooting information
 Understand battery limitations
