Magnetic Resonance Safety: Level 2 Personnel

In the Magnetic Resonance Safety: Level 2 Personnel course, learners will explore advance topics related to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) safety. This course will provide Individuals with broader knowledge of MR safety issues and allow them to eventually admit non-MR personnel into Zone III and IV of the MRI environment.

Learners will spend 90 minutes exploring 12 modules, which include:
• Introduction of MR Physics,
• MR Zoning, Signage and Access,
• MR Safety Labelling,
• Patient Safety in MR,
• Staff Safety in MR,
• Static Magnetic Field Related Safety Issues,
• Gradient Magnetic Field Related Safety Issues,
• Radiofrequency Magnetic Field Related Issues,
• Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agent (GBCA) Safety
• MRI-Conditional Labelling For Surgical Implants
• Managing Anxiety and Claustrophobia, and
• Responding to Emergencies.


Level 2 personnel course is suitable for BC MR Technologists, Radiologists, Biomedical Engineers and BCCH MR staff (Registered Nurses, Anesthesia Assistants and Anesthesiologists) who perform safety screening, admit and supervise patients, non-MR staff or contractors into the restricted zones III and IV of MRI departments.

After the completion of the Level 2 course, new staff members will still be required to attend an initial in-person orientation and complete safety screening prior to unsupervised work.
