Heard and Valued: Engaging Marginalized Populations
After completing this course learners will be able to:
- Outline the implications of excluding marginalized patients’ voices from healthcare planning
- Describe how patient engagement processes exclude marginalized people from participating in a meaningful way
- Identify strategies to develop patient engagement processes that support marginalized populations to participate
- Review a case study of a program engaging marginalized patients in health services planning
The course isn’t intended to provide guidance on how to conduct the various methods of engaging patients (such as surveys, workshops, focus groups, etc.).
Rather, it provides guidance for choosing among these various methods as well as considerations for conducting inclusive engagement activities that support diverse populations to participate in a meaningful way.
