ReAct Adult Protection Curriculum Module 1: Overview of Legislation and Documentation

This course provides foundational training on the legislative framework with a focus on the Adult Guardianship Act and offers guidance on documentation for Designated Responders/Designated Responder Coordinators who are responsible for looking into reports of adult abuse, neglect, or self-neglect.

Please open all ReAct online courses in Chrome on your desktop/lap top and make sure you have access to audio and video.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
• Outline the Adult Guardianship Legislation
• Describe your role as Designated Responder for a Designated Agency
• Apply the Adult Guardianship Act to investigation and documentation
• Describe family dynamics, dynamics of abuse, and risk factors

Pre-requisites for VCH/PHC/IH:
(1) Approval by Operational Leadership to be a Designated Responder/Designated Responder Coordinator. Please consult with your organization’s regional Adult Protection Lead about the approval process.
(2) Completion of Module 0, an introductory online course on adult abuse and neglect. You can find the pre-requisite by going to the LearningHub and searching for “ReAct: Act on Adult Abuse and Neglect – It’s Your Duty".

Pre-requisites for Fraser Health:
(1) Learners who have been approved to take the course. Please consult with your organization’s regional Adult Protection Lead about the approval process.
(2) Completion of Module 0, an introductory online course on adult abuse and neglect. You can find the pre-requisite by going to the LearningHub and searching for “Adult Abuse and Neglect – ReAct (Online)”.

Pre-requisites for Northern Health:
(1) Learners who have been approved to take the course. Please consult with your organization’s regional Adult Protection Lead about the approval process.
(2) Completion of Module 0, an introductory online course on adult abuse and neglect. You can find the pre-requisite by going to the LearningHub and searching for “ReAct: Act on Adult Abuse and Neglect – It’s Your Duty".


Designated Responder Coordinators and Designated Responders, who are approved to have the responsibility of responding to reports of adult abuse and neglect and other learners who have been approved to take the course.
