British Columbia Patient Safety & Learning System (BC PSLS): Patient Safety

The British Columbia Patient Safety & Learning System (BC PSLS) is a web-based tool used by healthcare providers across BC to report and learn from patient safety concerns such as actual adverse events, good catches (near misses) and hazards.

BC PSLS helps healthcare providers, leaders, and others to collect and analyze information that is crucial for patient safety and quality improvement. BC PSLS is in use across all BC health authorities in all care settings.

The overarching goal of BC PSLS is to make healthcare safer for all British Columbians through shared learning and continuous system improvement. BC PSLS is committed to the concept of a ‘culture of safety’ in which values of safety and quality are part of an organization’s very fabric, and considered an effective means to a safer healthcare system. Fostering a culture of safety among healthcare providers across the continuum is essential to enhancing patient safety.

This eLearning module will teach you about patient safety, safety culture and why reporting safety events in BC PSLS is an important means to building a safer healthcare system in BC.
