PHSA - TCBC - Gender-Affirming Physical Exams

This course provides clinicians with strategies for providing affirming, trauma- and violence- informed physical examinations for Two-Spirit, transgender, and non-binary (TTNB) clients. Participants will learn how historical medical practices have contributed to healthcare avoidance, outline gender-affirming approaches to physical exams, identify components of anatomical and hormone inventories, and adapt assessments to provide individualized care for TTNB clients.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of how historical and unethical practices in healthcare settings have contributed to healthcare avoidance and mistrust among TTNB individuals.

  2. Outline a gender-affirming approach to physical exams.

  3. Identify the key components of an anatomical and hormone inventory.

  4. Adapt assessments to provide individualized care for TTNB clients.
