PHSA - HEMBC - Inter- and Intra- Health Authority Relocation Education

This course is designed to build your understanding of the tools and processes that are available to support the inter- and intra-health authority relocation of patients, clients, and residents in the event of an evacuation.

Objectives of this course include:

  • Ensure a people-centered, culturally-safe, and risk-based approach is embedded throughout the evacuation, transportation, and reception phases.
  • Increase the preparedness of potential sending and receiving sites and improve the confidence of those involved.
  • Clarify role/responsibilities of the key partners involved in supporting each phase of the relocation process.
  • Provide guidance on strategies to facilitate communication amongst all responding partners and the impacted communities/families.

Anyone who may support an evacuation may complete this course, but it is especially important for those directly involved in decision making, operations for sending and receiving sites, and those in emergency management and coordinating roles.

This course can be completed in its entirety as part of advance training about evacuations or select modules that may be applicable to your role in an evacuation can be done just-in-time.

The Inter- and Intra-Health Authority Relocation (IIHAR) toolkit includes tools and resources that facilitate patient relocation from a site or community-level event, through all stages of preparation, evacuation, transportation, reception, and repatriation. The toolkit embeds a patient-centered, culturally safe, and risk-based approach throughout these phases, and gives considerations to those who are most vulnerable.
