ISLH - EECC – Climate-Resilient Island Health: Course 1 – Introduction to Climate Change and Health

This course is Part 1 of 4 in the Climate-Resilient Island Health learning series. Together, the four parts explore how climate change is affecting health in our region, how Island Health is responding, and how everyone can help build a climate-resilient health system.

This learning series supports Island Health’s Climate Change and Planetary Health Strategy and reflects our commitment to climate action, health system resilience, and environmental stewardship. It highlights real local stories of climate impacts and showcases how Island Health teams are already leading change.

This introductory course covers the core concepts of climate change and planetary health, and how they relate to our work and roles across Island Health.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Explain how and why the climate is changing in the Island Health region.

• Describe how climate change affects human health and our health system.

• Recognize the health system’s role in preparing and responding to climate change.

• Define what Planetary Health means and why it matters.

• Identify Island Health’s Climate Change and Planetary Health Strategy and sustainability goals, and how staff and medical staff can contribute to achieving them.
