PVPC for Physicians eLearning

Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) for Physicians eLearning

The Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) eLearning course for physicians is a 1.5-hour virtual course divided into five modules. It incorporates best practices appropriate for the unique roles, environments, and risk levels encountered by medical staff, including medical residents, physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, and midwives. The course was created and developed in partnership with physicians to support medical staff safety by helping prevent violent incidents, and equipping them with strategies to better protect themselves, their colleagues, and patients from violence in the workplace.

The course content includes the four-part violence prevention framework, point-of-care risk assessments, communication and de-escalation techniques, when and how to call for help, incident and near-miss reporting, and how to continue the care relationship after a violent incident.

This interactive course features knowledge checks, myth-busting activities, reflection exercises, and realistic example scenarios in clinical environments. Learners are taught how to apply principles of cultural safety and humility, diversity, trauma-informed practice, and other best practices for violence prevention in real-world contexts and a range of scenarios.
