PHSA - PC - PHS - Supportive Conversations
Engage in meaningful, trauma-informed dialogue with confidence. This workshop explores the stages of supportive conversations and emphasizes the fundamentals of active listening—the core components, its benefits, common barriers, and how to overcome them.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Understand what trauma informed supportive conversations are and are not.
- Recognize when and why to initiate a check in based on behavioural changes, requests, or stressors.
- Describe the key stages of a supportive conversation from preparation through follow up.
- Use core active listening skills (clarify, reflect, validate) to build trust and psychological safety.
- Identify common pitfalls to avoid in supportive, non fixing conversations.
- Apply trauma informed principles of choice, collaboration, and transparency to reduce anxiety and strengthen trust.
- Practice supportive conversation skills in real time scenarios to build confidence and readiness.
