Pyxis ES Module

The Pyxis™ MedStation ES is an automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) that secures approximately 90% of the medications in a patient care area. It increases efficiencies, security and decreases risk of med error.

  • Surrey Memorial Hospital

Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to provide a generic overview of features available on the Pyxis™ ES system. **Note: Some features may not apply to your facility or role.

RTs/AAs/Nuc Med Technologists/Clinical Students (except specialty educations RNs) have access to only non-controlled substances . That said, go through all modules to obtain certificate.

This e-learning module is a pre-requisite for:

  • Current Pyxis™ users (Including Preceptorship Students and Clinical Instructors) prior to registering for Pyxis ES MedStation Registration (#32905)
  • Students/Residents (Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and Anesthesiology) who are assigned to a FH Pyxis™ site for the first time.

  • Device Basics (5 mins)
  • My Patients List (2.5 mins)
  • Remove in Profiled Mode (8.5 mins)
  • Removed in Non-profiled Mode (6 mins)
  • Waste Medication (4 mins)
  • Return Medication (4 mins)
  • Resolve Discrepancies (4 mins)
  • Inventory Medications (5 mins)
  • Recover Failed Storage Spaces (3 mins)



Mandatory: Students (Clinical Nursing and Specialty Education Programs; Respiratory Therapy; Anesthesiology Residents) and current Pyxis™ users during the ES upgrade.

Optional: All other new hires and returning staff.

New hires or returning staff in the following roles: Nurses (employed and Clinical Instructors); Employed Student Nurses and RTs; Pharmacists; Physicians; Anesthesiologists; Anesthesia Assistants; Nuclear Medicine Technologists; Respiratory Therapists.

Current Pyxis User: Once the module is completed, please select an in-person orientation at Pyxis ES MedStation Registration (#32905) for BioID fingerprint registration and hands on practice.

Clinical Students: Please follow your clinical instructor’s instructions regarding access and BioID fingerprint registration.
