PHSA - HEMBC - Code Silver Active Attacker Training
This course will provide health organization employees and medical staff with strategies to respond when a person presents a weapon and is actively engaged in seriously harming, killing or attempting to kill others in a health care setting.
After completing this course learners will be able to:
- Take action to save their life during a Code Silver event
- Distinguish between and identifying the signs of a Code Silver active attacker situation and a Code White situation
- Identify necessary exit routes, lockable doors and hiding locations
- Weigh the ethical implications and professional responsibilities of staying with/leaving patients during an active attacker situation
- Use situational awareness in the health care setting
- Identify the risks of an active attacker situation
- Determine how best to respond to an active attacker, police and law enforcement responding to the situation, and 9-1-1 requesting information about the situation
- Locate resources for reporting and support after an active attacker situation
