Principles to Practice #8: Capacity, Competence, and Capability
This session, "Capacity, Competence, and Capability" in the Principles to Practice: Introduction to Health Care Ethics Seminar Series will:
• Consider and outline potential definitions of the terms ‘capacity,’ ‘competence,’ and ‘capability.’
• Consider different kinds of capacity assessments in medicine, and the ethical tensions that may underlie them.
• Reflect on difficult situations within medical ethics where capacity assessments may be central to ethical decision making, but may be difficult to perform.
