Online Street Degree - Managing Medical Emergencies

This online learning module is intended for anyone who wants to learn more about managing medical emergencies that can happen in the context of harm reduction or overdose prevention work. It is designed for peers and other people working on the frontlines at overdose prevention sites, supervised consumption sites and/or in outreach.

Learners will develop skills to:

  • Identify warning signs of medical emergencies.
  • Know when to refer and send people to a higher level of care
  • Identify specific medical emergencies including: breathing problems, heart problems, stroke, endorcarditis, seizures, sepsis, anaphylaxis

This course has been developed with and features the experience of peers - people with lived and living experience of substance use - who work at overdose prevention sites in Vancouver.
