Interactive Story Session: Compassionate Opioid Use Disorder Care Planning

Formerly titled Substance Use Simulation - no change to course content

Join us for an interactive story session centered on Frankie, a non-binary young adult facing escalating abdominal pain and an unexpected overdose while at the emergency room. Through a compelling video simulation, you'll witness Frankie's post-overdose care involving an ER physician and a social worker, and gain insights into opioid use, treatment options, and brief interventions. The session culminates with an interview featuring the actor who portrays Frankie, offering deeper engagement with the narrative and its critical themes.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Develop strategies to affirm gender, reduce stigma, and promote safer care for individuals who use substances.
  • Explore communication strategies and motivational interviewing techniques to engage and assess clients.
  • Utilize expertise in opioid use treatment to collaborate with clients and interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing treatment plans.

Format & Delivery:
Interactive video-based session with pause periods for reflective discussions and valuable insights from peer educators with lived/ living experience. Facilitated by a Nurse Educator and Peer Educator, this session is available online or in person (alternating throughout the year).
