BCEHS - COVID-19 Testing for Industry Paramedics

On May 2, 2021 British Columbia Public Health Order issued an order ADVANCED CARE PARAMEDIC and CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDIC SARS-CoV-2 SWABBING –In this order it indicates that BCEHS is required to provide access to paramedic clinical training for COVID 19 testing. Attached is the program previously developed to ensure that the BCEHS approved paramedics had the knowledge to safely perform the new skill of a Naso – pharyngeal swabbing and an orientation to the process of instructing a patient in perform an oral swab. The training does not cover Influenza Like Illness assessments and only briefly covers patient education and follow up strategies as those are generally best obtained from the local Health Authority for local protocols or the BC CDC Website.
**This course is not a replacement nor does it account for competency achievement. This course should be accompanied with a review of the appropriate safety policies and procedures for COVID exposure, WHIMIS, and Transportation of dangerous goods. **
