Introduction to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

This course will introduce learners to the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) process and is intended for health care workers, interpreter services or others who are supporting families or patients moving through the process.

Topics include:

  • History of MAiD
  • Definition MAiD
  • End-of-life care discussions
  • Overview of the MAiD process
  • Receiving a request for MAiD
  • Conscientious objection and duty to provide care
  • Resources

Please note that Federal MAiD laws were amended March 17, 2021. This course did not reflect those changes until November 18, 2021. In particular, the 10 day period of reflection was removed.

Employees who interact with patients who may ask about MAiD. For example, allied health staff, Provincial Language Services, home support staff etc.
