Health Care Assistant Practice in British Columbia

This course is based on material from the Health Care Assistant (HCA) Program Provincial Curriculum provides an overview of information that is relevant to HCA practice in the province of British Columbia.

This course develops an awareness of HCA parameters of practice in BC and the different types of health care settings where HCAs work. It covers the importance of working collaboratively in the health care team and highlights key concepts such as person-centered care as well as legal, ethical and professional approaches to practice.


The course is designed for individuals whose health care education and experience was gained outside of BC.

This course would provide a helpful overview for those returning to practice, and those with nursing education/experience who wish to work in the HCA role. Existing HCA employees may also benefit from this course as part of their ongoing professional development.
