PHSA - BCEHS - Role of the Dofficer Training for Students

This course gives students in educational establishments external to BCEHS access to BCEHS’s response in addressing changes required for safe delivery of care during COVID-19.

COVID-19 has prompted healthcare providers to revisit the way in which we ensure our staff are protected from exposure and contamination. A dofficer is a healthcare professional who supports their colleagues in the correct removal of personal protective equipment (PPE) to stop contamination. BCEHS is introducing the dofficer role and the dofficer checklist. This course is a review of the dofficer role and checklist.

After completing this course learners will be able to:

  • Describe the role of a "Dofficer" and how it works
  • Explain the rationale for adopting checklists in healthcare
  • Describe key checklist principles
  • Explain how to use the Doffing Checklists for face shield and N95 removal and storage
  • Explain how to use the Doffing Checklists for doffing plastic sleeves, apron, gown removal and disposal
  • Describe cleaning and storage of Dofficer Checklists in the ambulance cargo net
