PHSA - PSLS - Vanessa's Law: Advancing Mandatory Reporting
The Protecting Canadians from Unsafe Drugs Act, know as Vanessa's Law, became effective December 16, 2019. Vanessa's Law regulations require hospitals to report serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medical device incidents (MDIs) to Health Canada within 30 days of the event being documented within the hospital. In BC, this process is facilitated by the BC Patient Safety & Learning System (PSLS).
After completing this course learners will be able to:
- Comply with Vanessa's Law regulations
- Correctly identify the types of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medical device incidents (MDIs) now mandated for reporting
- Correctly report ADRs and MDIs in PSLS
- Find information and alerts about unsafe products
