Part1: Introduction to a Palliative Approach to Care
In this online course, you will learn tools to easily identify individuals who may benefit from a Goals of Care conversation and enhance your communication skills to understand people’s wishes. Because of the unpredictable nature of chronic/ life-threatening illnesses, integrating a palliative approach to care should not be dependent on prognosis but responsive to people’s wishes, values and goals. The outcomes of these conversations will play a valuable part in guiding your health care team to support and respect what matters most to individuals and their families. This is a skill all health care professionals need to have in order to sustain the needs of the aging population.
