PHSA - PLS - Working with Interpreters
This course will provide health care providers who are working with low English proficiency and deaf and hard of hearing patients with the tools to work effectively with interpreters.
Topics include:
- Language assessment and the role of interpreters
- Which interpreter modality is used in certain situations
- Working effectively with interpreters
- How to access phone interpreters
- How to access in-person/virtual interpreters for spoken or sign language
- Do's and don'ts when working with interpreters
Professional interpreters should be part of the care team and everyone should know their role and responsibility during any assignment.
