Gender Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Healthcare (Trans 101)

This virtual session will focus on developing the knowledge and skills needed to welcome and support trans, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse (2STGD) people who receive our care. The session aims to help increase safety and access to services while promoting health, wellness, and affirming care.

This course will be offered virtually via Zoom in a webinar format.

All staff are strongly encouraged to attend!

Trans, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse patients and clients access services across VCH. Building awareness of psychological safety when working with 2STGD people is an important core competency in our work and reflects our VCH values and commitment to providing safe, respectful, and inclusive care.

This session will cover:

• Language and key concepts

• What gender affirmation/transition may involve and experiences unique to trans, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people

• The impacts of societal discrimination and systemic barriers

• Gender-affirming care in practice

• Understanding and upholding the fundamental rights of 2STGD patients accessing care and 2STGD staff in the workplace

• Resources and supports available to staff, patients, and clients
