PHSA - BCW - Understanding Sexual Assault
This course focuses specifically on the issue of sexual assault - what is consent, what is sexual assault, how to respond to a disclosure of sexual assault, how to support survivors, provide them with options, make an effective referral, and care for yourself.After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Define the term sexual assault and understand the rang of its impacts on survivors
- Use the LIVES approach, a trauma-informed, culturally safe way to respond to a sexual assault disclosure
- Outline the various options available to support survivors after they have been sexually assaulted
- Understand what community-based anti-violence services exist, what they offer, and how to access them and other supports
- Care for their own health and well-being while supporting sexual assault survivors
