Introduction to placing Emergency Department Cardiology, Laboratory and Medical Imaging orders in the PCIS system.

PCIS Access and Training is NOT required in the areas using CST Cerner as of November 5, 2022


Note: Although this course shows the process with the RH ED Order pad, the ED Order Pad at VGH and UBCH is similar.

By the end of this course you will have learned how to:

  • Navigate the Emergency Department Census Screen (EDCNS)
  • Assign yourself as the Attending / EP
  • Review the Order Status from EDCNS
  • Review a Patient's Order Profile
  • Navigate the ED Order Pad
  • Place ED Frequent Orders
  • Place ED Medical Imaging Orders
  • Place ED Blood Product Orders
  • Place an Add-On Lab Order
  • Place ED Outpatient Follow-Up Orders
  • Place a Timed Order
  • Cancel / Retract / Modify an Order

    • Course Length: approx. 1.5 - 2 hours

    NOTE: Required Supplementary Training materials, that may be sent with the PCIS Access confirmation e-mail after completion of this course, should be reviewed if applicable.
    Depending on Job Role, additional time may be required.

ED Physicians, Fellows, Residents (VGH ED, RH ED, UBCH UCC)

** Nursing Students (in Instructor led groups) and Instructors - not required to take this course. Students will not receive access but may take course for educational purposes (e.g. - Preceptorship Students).

Unit Clerk Students - will not get access

Non ED/UCC staff (e.g. Inpatient Unit staff) should complete the online PCIS VA/RH Inpatient Order Entry - Online course.
