PIECES (2-day) Program for Fraser Health Long-Term Care and Assisted Living - Day 1

This course is an online course.
The P.I.E.C.E.S.™ (2-day) Education Program is designed for Clinical Leaders e.g. Directors of Care, Resident Care Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Educators, Assisted Living Community Health Nurses and front-line professional staff e.g. RNs/RPNs, LPNs, SW and other allied health professions. The participants are expected to share their knowledge and skills obtained through the P.I.E.C.E.S. Program back at the care home.

The P.I.E.C.E.S.™ framework supports Interdisciplinary TEAMS to detect, assess and understand complex physical and cognitive/mental health needs and associated behavioural changes in the older person. P.I.E.C.E.S.™ philosophy recognizes that the person and family are central to care together with clinical and system goals to address behaviours.

Day 1 Learning Goals:

Following the completion of Day 1, learners will have:

  • Participated in a dynamic and interactive exchange of knowledge, skills and experience.
  • An understanding of how the PIECES Foundational Principles and Core Competencies drive a holistic, Person centred and relationship focused approach to Team Collaboration.
  • Experienced how to apply the PIECES 3-Q Template to guide an evidence-informed Team approach to collaborative assessment and shared care, building on the Person's unique strengths, preventing unnecessary disability, and always considering the Person's Physical, Emotional and Intellectual health, Capabilities, Environment and Social self.
  • An awareness of best practice assessment tools commonly used in behavioural assessment, and those used in the investigation of possible contributing factors.
  • The knowledge to complete a Practical Application of the PIECES approach using the PIECES 3-Q Template as a collaborative tool (to be completed between Day 1 and Day 2)

You must register and attend PIECES -Day 2 (Course ID 28884) in order to complete the training. Participants should take day 1 and 2 within same month.
