Health Literacy – Patient Teaching Tips and Tools

Teach well with teach-back. Incorporate patient teaching into your flow of work.

This workshop is right for you if you provide patient education in hospital, clinic, community/home, or residential care settings.
Learn strategies to:
• Find out what a patient knows about their health condition and caring for themselves
• Give information that considers the patient’s level of understanding, literacy, language, disability, and culture
• Verify that the patient and family understand the information provided
• Assess how your patient will use new information within the context of their life

Patient teaching is key to patient-centred care. This workshop helps you meet Accreditation Canada standards.
