Designing Quantitative Research Projects

Overview:
Would you like to learn about common designs for evaluation or research projects?

This workshop tackles common design features for projects that use numbers to answer questions. Statistics are used to analyze numbers, but what comes before analysis? Proper project design and data collection techniques are key to getting correct answers. This workshop will cover important design considerations, such as how to minimize bias and choose the right design for each question.

Objectives:
After attending this session, you will be able to:
• Identify independent and dependent variables and the levels of measurement
• Develop an operational definition of measures
• Describe the different question types
• Choose an appropriate study design
• Explain bias in study design and assess threats to validity and
reliability
• Distinguish between different sampling strategies
• Describe confidence intervals, p-values and power
• Apply a statistical decision tree
