Health Literacy – Writing Patient Education Materials

Learn how to select and develop written patient education materials that are easy for people to understand and use.
If you write or review patient education materials (e.g., discharge instructions or public health information) and want to increase your skills in writing in plain language, this session is for you.
Through hands on practice, learn how to:
• Organize information so it is easy to read and understand
• Apply easy-to-read principles for developing written materials
• Simplify complex medical terminology or concepts
• Use design images effectively
• Critique health materials based on the principles of clear language and design
When we provide easy to understand materials, we are helping Fraser Health be a health literate organization and helping us meet Accreditation Canada standards.

Any Fraser Health staff who develop patient education materials and other patient-facing resources, and any staff who want to develop their skills in writing in clear language.
