Analyzing Research Data Using Excel

*Are you planning to collect and analyze data for research, evaluation, or quality improvement projects? Are you planning to use Excel for preliminary data exploration and data analysis? Are you interested in learning about strategies that ensure data accuracy and valid research results? Are you interested in learning about strategies that ensure data accuracy and valid research results using Excel?

This workshop is designed for participants proficient in using Excel who want to grow expertise in analyzing numerical data. We will provide an overview of how Excel can be used to organize and analyze your data. We will discuss the best practices in designing data spreadsheets and developing data dictionaries. Using mock data, we will visually inspect data, use descriptive statistics, and perform statistical hypothesis testing for hands-on and interactive learning.

Objectives:
• Describe the quantitative research process;
• Learn the different uses of Excel in a quantitative research study;
• Learn about the advantages and limitations of using Excel for data analysis;
• Setup a data dictionary and spreadsheet database (capture data);
• Prepare data for analyses using Excel functions (clean data);
• Describe and summarize data using Excel functions (explore data);
• Analyze data using Excel functions (e.g., independent samples t-test, dependent samples t-test).
