Provincial Violence Prevention for Medium and High Risk Departments - 8 Modules

This eight-hour course is the classroom component of the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum and builds on the skills learned in the PVPC e-learning modules. All eight PVPC eLearning modules must be completed before participating in the PVPC classroom.

Topics covered in-depth include:

• PVPC Framework
• Recognizing Risks and Behaviours
• Assessing and Planning (point-of-care risk assessments and behavioural care planning)
• Responding to the Risk (de-escalation skills, determining when and how to call for help, applying personal safety techniques)
• Reporting and Communicating Post Incident


  • All High-Risk Department employees at PHSA.

  • Non-PHSA employees may be unregistered from a session to accommodate PHSA staff depending on class demand.

  • BCEHS and BCMHSUS Correctional Health Services employees will need to register for the PVPC class that is aligned with their operational practices (PVPC-B for Paramedics and PVPC-C for Correctional Health Services).

Physical participation is required for this course. Please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear such as running shoes. Do not wear heels, flip-flops, sandals, or open-toed shoes. All participants must wear a medical grade mask throughout the session.
Please Note: There will be two 15 min coffee breaks and ½ hour for lunch.
Kindly arrive on time and bring your own refreshments and lunch.
• Must attend for the full 7.5 hours for credit.
• Due to the high demand for these classes, please cancel if you are unable to attend.
• There are limited seats available for these sessions. If you are on the waitlist, a notification email will be sent to you when a seat opens in the course.
