Nutrition for PHNs: Growth Monitoring

Pre-Requisit: "Nutrition for PHNs: Healthy Eating for Infants & Toddlers"
This session introduces PHNs to the best practice for monitoring the growth of infants and young children. PHNs will have hands-on practice using and interpreting the W.H.O. and Fenton growth charts with case studies. PHNs will have opportunities to demonstrate how to discuss key growth messages with clients.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to:
     state the importance of monitoring the growth of infants and toddlers
     plot the growth of infants and children on WHO and Fenton growth charts.
     interpret the growth patterns on charts and initiate appropriate follow up actions
     discuss growth patterns with parents.

  2. PHNs will know where to find nutrition resources for parents and resources to support their practice as health professionals.

  3. PHNs will increase their confidence in discussing appropriate growth messages with parents.


Fraser Health Public Health Nurses who are new to public health, returning from leave, or wanting to refresh their nutrition knowledge and skills. BSN Preceptor Students (final) may be eligible to attend - contact Course Manager.
